Dr Bryden Dawes is a distinguished neurosurgeon and spine surgeon based in Melbourne. His areas of expertise include cerebrovascular surgery, brain tumour surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery.

He has appointments at St Vincent’s Private and Public Hospitals, Epworth Eastern Hospital and St John of God Hospital, Bendigo.

Dr Dawes obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University, graduating with honours in 2011. He has undertaken extensive neurosurgical training across Melbourne and Sydney, including The Austin Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, Macquarie University Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital. He was awarded a fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2020. Throughout his surgical training he also completed a Master of Surgery at Macquarie University and a Postgraduate Diploma of Surgical Anatomy at the University of Melbourne. 

After completing his Australian training, Dr Dawes undertook a prestigious cerebrovascular and skull base fellowship at the University of Texas in Houston, USA. This time and experience advanced his clinical and operative skills in the management of complex cerebrovascular and brain tumour conditions. He has developed expertise in cerebral bypass surgery and is among a select few surgeons in Australia trained in this complex procedure.

Dr Dawes is also passionate about minimally invasive spine surgery, having undergone comprehensive training both in Australia and the USA. He utilises the latest state of the art technologies and techniques, including navigation, robotics, endoscopy and minimally invasive spinal fusion approaches.

Holding memberships with the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Dr Dawes has a keen interest in research. Specifically, he focuses on subarachnoid haemorrhage and spine surgery. He has extensive publications in numerous peer reviewed journals and neurosurgical books, and his research has been presented internationally. 

In his practice, he emphasises holistic, evidence-based care, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, including fellow physicians and allied health professionals. Dr Dawes couples his exceptional communication skills with a dedication to building strong patient relationships, to deliver the highest quality care.
